Let's pray for our mothers....

  1. I'm not sure how many of you follow Steph on Twitter but her Mom (also of course Dannell's Mom) has been in and out of the hospital over the weekend with what seems to have been a mini stroke. Let's pray that the doctors can pinpoint exactly what is wrong with her and get her back to 100% health very soon. We should also pray for peace and comfort for the whole family as times like these are trying on everyone.

I also have a mother-related prayer request. My Mom is going into surgery in just a few hours to have a knee replacement, which is of course no small operation. What's worse is that the doctors are giving her about 2 months to rehab her knee before she has another surgery to reconstruct her foot. She had surgery to fix her foot over a year ago, and then the rehab center put her through the wrong treatment and actually BROKE her foot down the middle. She's been walking around on it, broken and ever-worsening, for the past year. The foot is on one side and the knee is on the other. So, somehow she has to rehab her knee while nursing a broken foot, and then once she has the foot surgery, she won't be able to rely on her other foot, since that leg will still be recovering from the knee replacement. She may have to be out of work for a full year to recover from both operations, which is a struggle in and of itself. Any prayers will be appreciated -- for my Mom as well as for my Dad who will bear the brunt of taking care of her throughout it all.

  2. Yes, for those that don't know. We are starting our 3rd night at the hospital, not including the one night spent at a different one.
On Friday my mother went to work and on the way got a really bad headache.she came home and had to ask me tolet herin the house because she couldn't figure out how to use the keys to unlock the door. She told me her head hurt really bad and went to lay down. When I was leaving she was trying to make me turn off the light but kept saying heater and computer instead of light. So I told her to keep her phone by her and went to work. When I got there my boss sent me home to check on her and take her to the hospital. She couldn't smile at me and she couldn't repeat a simple sentence but she could raise her arms and stick out her tongue. so 2 out of 4 tests of a stroke. We got to the emergency room around 11 am and I was alone until 3pm until people started showing up. Dannell and Rob drove up from San Antonio. and my brother came too. They gave her a room by 7pm. She stayedthe night there and then the next day they released her because the ct scans didn't show any signs of a stroke and all her symptoms were gone. wewent to eat and went home to hang out. She went to sleep around 9 and I went to sleep around 1. At 2 Dannell came running inthe room telling me to wake up because we were taking her back to the hospital but this time we took her to a better hospital because even a nurse(a woman that lives down the street from us) told us to take her somewhere else. So now we are at Harris. We got here 3am Saturday night/Sunday morning and she was admitted into the room at around 7am and has been here ever since. They've run a million tests and still aren't sure what is wrong with her.

The family appreciates all your prayers. and of course Amanda i'm praying for your mom and family as well.
    I'll keep everyone posted.

  4. Mom is improving by leaps and bounds and they've decided to send her home today! This is fantastic news. Originally, they were telling her she'd leave the hospital and go to a rehab center for at least a week.

I am glad she has that family "tough" gene. When my Papa had both knees replaced, the doctor told him he needed to use a walker, and he translated that to -- "It's OK for me to till the garden!"

I haven't seen any Twitter updates from Steph in a few days. Let's keep praying for her Mom. It sounded like the doctors were having a hard time pinpointing what was wrong. Hopefully they can get it figured out soon so she can get the appropriate treatment and then get back home!

  5. OK, here's an update from Steph. The doctors are still running tests on her Mom, but she IS having surgery tomorrow to clear the blocked artery in her throat. So we can pray specifically for that for now.

  6. They just took my mom for Surgery. She's in preop. She's supposed to have the surgery at 715 this morning but they came and got her at 5 instead of 6 so we don't know if they moved it up or if they just think it will take longer for pre-op. We'll see.

  7. Another Twitter update from Steph: The surgery went really well the doctor said. They are going to keep her overnight in the cardiovascular ICU.

  8. Wow.
I got a text from Dannell today, but of course me being stupidly busy this past week, I haven't checked in here, so I didn't have any point of context. I'm glad the surgeries went well, on both counts... geez, that sounds like a scary ordeal. :/

  9. yeah, Dannell was sending it to all kinds of people so she would forget who had she had sent it too and who she hadn't. We got to bring her home yesterday. She seems perfectly fine. But she does have a gnarly gash all the way down the side of her neck. And she's supposed to go back in 4 to 6 weeks to get the surgery done on the other side as well because even though the sonogram showed a 60-70% block the Dr. said that it was actually 80% blocked.
It was all very scary but I'm glad it's mostly over!

Hey guys! thanks so much for this thread i just read it! :) haha sorry!
Well i have more prayer requests about mom... she is doing really good. but still having some trouble with high blood pressure even though she is taking meds for it. she went in and did a sleep Apnea test . last night and today had a bone density one...
Back when she had the surgery, they told her she might have to have another one on the other side, and or that her heart might be weak... But when she healed and went back they said she should not have to have the other artery cleared and that her heart was just how it was because of the high blood pressure... But she is still having it, so i dunno....

On top of that. she is pretty stressed because she is a bout to lose her job. she has been at her current job for ten plus years. but she is not meeting the quota, and since they know she has been sick, they are basically giving her the boot. so she is unsure what will happen now. Without a job, it will prove to be difficult to keep the house ( which she and steph live in) and So There are alot of things up in the air.. all of which still cause her great stress and give her the high blood pressure! So
I just ask you to pray that everything works out and that she is healed and whole and free of stress and worry, and has a decent amount of money and maybe even a better place to live... Thanks guys! Love you all !

p.s. how is your mom doing amanda?

  12. Oh man, that's not good about the job thing. I would think they could not oust her due to sickness -- that just sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen, but I guess it depends on the state laws about hiring and firing. Thanks for the update, though -- I will pray for her.

My Mom is doing well with her knee replacement, but next week (Wednesday, the 9th) she'll go back in for the foot reconstruction surgery. They had to make sure her knee was healed well enough to support her before doing the foot surgery, since it's on the opposite side. She and Daddy are going to take a road trip down the parkway this week so she can enjoy the great outdoors before she's stuck in bed for two months at least. Thanks for asking about her! We'd all certainly appreciate the prayers for her on the 9th for the surgery and thereafter for the recovery.

  13. well they don't mention anything about the sickness when it comes to letting her go. They just say it's because she's not hitting her quota. It's just fishy because she's going the same speed she's been going the last 12 1/2 years... but now a couple months after her surgery with insurance helping out... It's suddenly a big deal. But of course they are very careful not to say anything about her being sick. But she gets no severance since she's being let go and because of how the business is let up she can't get unemployment either.

We're trying to figure out what to do because we know that I can't afford to pay all the bills on the crap salary that I make at Blockbuster. So prayer is much appreciated. And i'll definitely keep your mom in mine Amanda.

  14. That is such a sucky scenario. If you have any lawyer friends, it might not hurt to just mention it to them and see what they think? A phone call from an attorney to "inquire" about the circumstances may be enough to make them reconsider her job.
