  1. See. you're the first person that has said it was bad. Most people say it's interesting.

We saw Disrict 9 Last night for date night. i liked it. it was a new fresh idea. which was a pleasant change from every remade everything. I had to close my eyes through some of the gruesome parts ( i do not do gore AT all!) and I also had to close my eyes because of the way it was shot ( serious motion sickness) But i liked it. its a bit slow, because its shot as if its a documentary. so pieces of it are back story that you do not understand until it gets to the heart of what the movie is about. but all in all i liked it. While i was watching it, i was thinking it was one of those movies I only ever have to see once. but thinking back on it. i would watch it again. It was interesting..a nd ofcourse they left it open to where they could make another if they feel the need. What did you dislike about it? if i may ask... without giving anything away???

So.. without giving anything away.. (not that there's much of a secret here) The lead actor was really bad most of the time. Concept of the "documentary" was great but the execution for me was terrible. Real "Corny" in spots and the first 30 minutes dragged and dragged and dragged... The story line had more holes than a barnyard infested with prarie dogs. Not a big fan of always using the hand held camera.. like you said... motion sickness... LOL I'm a big Sci-Fi fan, so I guess my expectations were very high, and left the theater feeling disappointed and ripped off. Kind of like biting into a big bright red apple and and seeing 1/2 of a worm.............

  4. Not to switch to tv, but I have to ask... Did anyone watch the Tool Academy on VH1?

  5. no i didn't watch that.

But I am currently watching Dragonball Evolution. and it's really weird to see Emmy Rossum, who i just view as the beautiful Christine from phantom of the opera as this tough talking scientist chick.

However I guess it should be that weird since before she was in Phantom, I knew her as the kind of awkward girl from a A kid movie called Genius

  7. Last film I saw was Inglourious Basterds. Which is one of the best films I'm seen in a very long time, absolutely amazing. The spelling is intentional, it's because there's another film called "Inglorious Bastards" so it's to differentiate it from that film. Apparently there's a personal reason on Tarantino's part for the misspelling as well, but the interview I read he said he was keeping it to himself.

But yeah, amazing film, you HAVE to go see it if you havn't already

  8. Everybody's been saying that one is good. :)

  9. I'll hit the DVD perspective.

There have been lot of interesting things in theaters lately, but since my surgery & deaths I've been unable to spend time away from the house much. Thus, Movies I can't get enough of:
    "Clue: The Movie"
"The Fall" (rated R for a good reason - NOT for young children)
"Son of Rambow" (Yes, I spelled that correctly - this one's kind of hard to find. Try your local Best Buy)
"Penelope" (Watch it with every woman in your life)
Rene Clair's version of "And Then There Were None"
(beware the other two versions... ugh! Sure, it's old & in B&W, but it's incredible),
    "Benny & Joon"
"Big Trouble in Little China" (Don't take it seriously or you won't enjoy it one bit)
"Scoop" (if you like ScarJo & Woody Allen)
"Empire Records" (I had a job where this was actually considered the Training Manual. Really.)
"Saved!" (If you're big time religious... maybe you should skip this one.)
"Serenity" (ONLY if you've already watched "Firefly" in its entirety.)
"Charade" (Loooove Cary Grant & Audrey Hepburn)
"Brick" (new noir murder mystery. Linguistically brilliant, but rated R)
    "Office Space"
"Foul Play" ("I stabbed him with needles!", "Narcotics, eh?", "No! Knitting!")

...and if you want something with a foreign touch, try either "The City of Lost Children" (french) or any of Hayao Miyazaki's films (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, etc) - I believe "Ponyo" is still in theaters.

If anyone needs recommendations regarding TV on DVD - lemme know. I can hook you up with the names of not only your blessedly great mainstream ones, but also the blessedly great gifts we can now enjoy from Japan, (Fruits Basket, anyone?).

  10. So, a few nights ago my roommates and i went to see jennifer's Body. Seriously one of the funniest movies i've ever seen. yes it was gory and a bit awkward. but hilarious. I love Diablo Cody. Her writing is just so off the wall and unexpected that you can't help but die laughing. oh and I'll never think of that 867-5309(Jenny) song in the same way ever again. hahahahahahahahahaha.

  12. @PonthiusPython: WOW. You like 'The Fall'? It's one of my favorite movies of ALL time!

I've haven't seen a GOOD movie in ages... last one that really moved me was 'Dancer In The Dark'. I had been meaning to watch it for ages, but only managed to do it at the beginning of the year and seriously, can Björk do anything wrong?

The fall is pretty. sad but pretty
Penelope is one of my all time favorites. i freaked out when i saw the preview i absolutely had to see it!
Benny and Joon. - the real reason to love johnny Depp
Empire records! is ofcourse in my top 3. i can quote it and sing everysong. ( yes we watched it that many times with subtitles!)
Saved - I am big time religious ( saved by my Lord and saviour jesus Christ) and I still liked saved alot!
I still have not watched all of Firefly.. but i like Serenity!
Brick - i liked alot. just saw The Brothers bloom it was written and directed by the same person. it was pretty good too.

If we are talking old movies I would have to say
Reality Bites- one of my all time faves
Almost Famous- but only if you watch the Directors cut. Cameron Crowe is genius!
Vanilla sky !!! Elizabethtown and ofcourse Say anything and Jerry magguire!

Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless mind- its just so clever
    Liar Liar - so funny!
13 going on 30 - one of my favorites a good chickflick 80's love story. good just for the Love is a battlefield pajama party alone and also the thriller dance sequence!
also Catch and Release- kinda starts sad. but really great movie!
PS I love you - another sad- happy story

And this past week we watched Ghost of girlfriends past... it was really really good!

I CANNOT wait for WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE!!!! SO EXCITED!

  15. Oh, 13 Going on 30! I loved that movie SO much. Jennifer Garner was perfect. And Mark Ruffalo was hot, as is his usual practice. My office-mate and I often get on a roll quoting that movie.

    "Who's your Daddy?!"
    "Wayne Rink!"

That one gets me every time.

And yes, that Thriller dance sequence was AWESOME.

I will have to re-watch that movie now that I am thinking about its various shades of fabulousness.

  18. I tend to always enjoy Terry Gilliam pictures. so hopefully this one is amazing. I'm interested to see how it's going to fit together.

For those of you that don't know, Johny Deep, Colin Farrell, and Jude Law were all added to the film after Heath Died. Originally he was supposed to play all 4 parts but he died while filming. Instead of refilming all of his parts with a new actor like they did with Aaliyah in The Matrix movies they just decided to keep the heath footage and add other actors. So I've been intrigued by this movie for a while. Trailer looks good.
