Steph, Dannell and I decided we needed a generic thread that was not related to the John Hughes Tribute episode (although I loved it). So, here 'tis.

Alrighty, so we're back from hiatus and all hell's broken loose...

Poor Haley. I think this depression is going to carry us through until the end of the season, or at least near it. (Another reason I can't abide the thought of this being the end. OTH can't go out with Haley in this state. My question is -- is Haley pregnant? I know she told Nathan the test was negative, and ordinarily I obviously don't believe she would lie to him, but my concern is that she is so emotionally strung out she cannot handle the thought of having another child right now, and so she is trying to ignore the situation entirely, as if that will make it go away. Then again, she was drinking at the gallery opening -- granted it didn't necessarily have to be alcohol -- but in her depressed state, that may not have made a difference either way. So, it occurs to me that perhaps she is pregnant and she lied, or either she is not pregnant and does not want to have another child right now. Her reaction to Nathan saying he wanted to have another baby was not exactly favorable. And then when she slipped outside in the middle of the night just to cry.....gah. Heartbreaking. Nathan! Help!!

And speaking of Nathan, how about those father/son scenes? I was equal parts entertained and mortified by the whole KISS thing. Wow. As my friend Jessica put it, "That is the hottest KISS has ever been." Be that as it may, for the love of Pedro please do not put James Lafferty in a getup like that ever again. And poor guy, he cannot sing. (But at least now we can tell that he is human, after all.) I thought the shaving scene was adorable, and loved the throwbacks and Nathan talked to Jamie about when he met Haley and Lucas.

Grubbs/Miranda: I find them to be adorable. A little quick for them to be in love -- or considering being in love, but I guess it may have as much to do with finishing the album as anything else. I'll forgive a lot in that storyline b/c I love Wakey!Wakey! and I have been a proponent of that pair ever since Miranda first spotted him at TRIC.

Alex. (Girl Alex.) Man she is such a train wreck. I really like Jana Kramer, and I keep trying to like Alex, but she is so screwed up. Why on earth did she sleep with that skeazy man? And now, he is gay? And so did he release the video to cover up that he is gay? I am confused by all of that and that dude just really gives me the creeps. But LOL at Julian saying: "My two leading actors are sleeping together? This is my surprised face."

Boy Alex. He and Victoria crack me up, but let's keep it that way. I don't want their relationship to go all serious a la Uncle Skills and Nanny Deb. I prefer the light-hearted and absolutely ridiculous aspect of that pairing, and when the sheet fell down at the gallery and Victoria just stepped over Mouth in the floor and said "Well that's just scandalous," I cracked up.

Mouth/Lauren/Skills -- I am cool with this storyline so far, although everything came out kinda quickly. I am curious to see where we go from here. I like Mouth and Lauren, though, as I think I have said since that first scene of theirs. Skills left town, and they essentially broke up, and he never even called her or anything. So he can't just waltz back in now and expect to get her back. And poor Mouth. He can never get any happiness. Lauren kisses him, and he gets punched in the face. Now I suppose he will feel too guilty to continue pursuing Lauren, but then again, she was in the car with him at the end, so maybe Mouth will stick to his guns and he and Skills can duke it out. (Where's Millie, I wonder? Did she run off with Owen? I'd be fine with that. They had good chemistry.)

Quinn/Clay - I am still underwhelmed with them. I don't buy their romance. That being said, they annoyed me less last Monday. I just wish we'd had a LOT more buildup with them before they became a couple. And it would have been nice if that had happened after we had a satisfactory resolution to the whole David thing. But, presumably in the interest of cementing this forced Quinn/Clay bond, we now have Katie -- the psycho-Sara -- to create an obstacle for them. I would just kind of like to close my eyes and pretend she does not exist. I liked ghost-Sara, but I do not like this psycho-Sara-look-a-like. We've had enough psychos. I don't need another. Nobody will top Nanny Carrie, anyway. LOL.

Brooke/Julian -- Well, I still don't want to see these two end up together, but for right now, I am just glad to wave goodbye to sad/insecure Brooke. Get back to season six Brulian and we'll talk about it. I just hope Julian "helping" Alex doesn't result in a redux of the jealousy storyline, because I am over that.

That brief moment between Brooke and Haley at the gallery open was sweet, though. I hope to see more of those two together soon. They are both grieving in different ways, and maybe they can help each other.

I think that's it. OK. Steph? Dannell? Have at it.

As you may have noticed, it's back to the basement for this forum. I may never take it down. But the same cannot be said for leviweaver.com

I'll try to keep this short and just say that I have seen the corruption in politics first hand now, and it is just as ugly as I'd imagined. This councilman (and the current owners of the building) have done everything in their power to discredit me as a legitimate hopeful to purchase the building. Once the subject got brought up (by way of a Fort-Worth Star Telegram Reporter) that this was all a scheme for me to bring attention to my music career, I knew that I had to take the site down.

I don't have the time or the means to go about doing something like this, toying with people's emotions and giving them false hope just so that I can sell a few records. That is vile, disgusting, and frankly I can't believe anyone would suggest such a thing was even possible.

But I am learning not to be surprised by the depths to which people will sink to make a quick buck.

So the site, and my music career, are on hiatus (officially).

I'll keep you informed over at http://www.ridgleatheater.org

I'm sorry to have done this with no prior announcement.

levi on "Ridglea Theater / Why I've Been Quiet"

If you are a subscriber, you have an e-mail about this, but I know that sometimes opening my monthly email isn't the first thing on your monthly list, so I thought I should explain here why I've been so quiet this summer (I'll copy/paste what I wrote below).

This whole process has been really time-consuming. I've been learning real-estate, business, staffing, "tortious interference", and a whole plethora of other things that until last month, I had purposely kept my mind uncluttered by. Still, I think the project is one that needs to be undertaken, and thus far no one else has. So now I am.

Here's the copy/paste from my monthly mailout:

"I hesitated telling you guys about what follows. But you invested money in this album-project, so you should know why I didn't finish another song this month...

See, when we were in Texas last month, I found out that the Ridglea Theater, where my wife and I were married, was going to be torn down (all but the facade and the lobby) and turned into a bank. I'm always coming up with far-fetched dreams, but when I suggested to Heather that we should see if we could get investors together and try to buy the building, she didn't look at me like I was crazy. In fact, she had some pretty cool ideas about events we could hold in there. So I started making phone calls and sending e-mails, just to see if it was a possibility.

As it stands, Bank of America has the building under contract, so even if I had the money, I couldn't legally buy it, -but- there has been a huge groundswell of local dissent aimed at the bank, asking them not to destroy the building. So there are rumblings that they may back out. If they do, I have been hard at work putting together a business plan that makes sense, so that I can get investors to help me rescue / purchase / renovate / re-open the 60-year old theater.

Needless to say, I didn't have a clue what I was doing when I started. And I'm still a few years of business school behind. But I've been working hard and surrounding myself with people who do know what they are doing. I've been learning a lot. And I've also been spending an inordinate amount of time on the phone and sending e-mails instead of being in the studio. And it's starting to look... hopeful. Not probable yet, but hopeful, anyway.

Don't worry. I will finish this album. It's almost done. And I'm really proud of it. But this month, I was over my head trying to learn commercial real estate so I could rescue the building where I married the one who inspires songs about Tornadoes.

-Levi

p.s. you can keep up with progress on the Ridglea Theater on the Updates section of this page: http://www.ridgleatheater.org

I just picked up Daisy by Brand new and I'm in love. can't stop listening to it.
With my next paycheck I will be buying the Debut album of Dead Man's Bones which features a childrens conservatory choir from California. I like what i've heard from it so far so i'm interested to see how the rest is going to turn out.
Also, because i'm a nerd, I will be buying I bought a blue car today by Alan Cumming. I love that Scottish man. It 's a recording of his one man show that he talked about on Chelsea Lately a few nights ago.

okay, so before the basement we had a film thread so I decided to start a new one.

I've had the worst luck lately with movies. nothing i've watched lately has really impressed me except for The Time Traveler's Wife. Everything else has been rather lack luster.

What about you guys. Have you seen any really amazing films lately? be it in theaters or on dvd. New or old? I'm always looking for something new to love.....

I am sorry, Levi, but this is probably the greatest song ever written. One day you may soar to such heights.

So, I don't think you have to be a One Tree Hill viewer to appreciate the general hilarity of this. But, for context, this clip below explains why I put this song on our Road Trip mix. There is a scene in the car, and then you see a second or two of some random other scenes before returning to another car scene (which occurs the next day in TV time): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4ZdYlG3fqY

I had to contact the OTH Music Supervisor to find out how she stumbled upon this song, and apparently it came to her on a mix from a radio station. I, of course, had to have the song as well.

Which today, became a *lovely* video of yours truly singing and breaking it down in the car as we drove back from the beach. Said video is presently uploading to Facebook via a computer on the other side of the room.

And just in case you were wondering, this is a serious dude who thinks he is singing a serious song, and in case you don't believe me, then check out this serious music video he made for the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIPqwjFqzeQ

Now, that video has over 130,000 views. Dude has OTHER songs, too, and some of those videos have as many as 10,000 views. So, I am thinking that 129,999 views on the first video are from OTH fans, and 9,999 views on his other videos are OTH fans who were just coming back for more ridiculous-ness. Surely not even this dude's Momma watches his videos.

I wonder how much OTH paid him to use his song in two different episodes, in two different seasons, and I wonder if he saw the episodes and realized they were making fun of him, or if it made him believe he was awesome.

As I sift through the board, I recall my oath to try to replace what disappeared when we, ahem, opened the basement door & wandered back into the world.

I know that once upon a time I created a topic for completely random, what's up with your day today stuff. Here's its replacement.

Toss a link to your blog or new cover or whatnot in here. Tell me what you ate for breakfast or dinner, (I apparently don't care much for your lunch). What have you been reading? Are you in school? Spill it here, people.

An abandoned board does nothing to attract new members. I'm thinking that's what's going on here. The majority of us - and by "us" I mean those who resided in the basement - keep track of one another through various methods of communication. It's easy for me to brush off the thought of asking Amanda or Kate how their day was by posting here when I can just as easily check their Facebook/Twitter. Same goes for most of you. So let's give it a little effort. Sure, we know what's going on with one another most of the time, & the heavens know we would never truly fall out of touch with what Levi is up to - newbies, if you're reading this, that's legit. No sarcasm - but why don't we get our song reviews back up here? Why don't we branch out a bit & see if we can recruit some new friends to come spend time with us here.

Maybe I'll go so far as to lock myself in the basement for a couple of weeks. That's right. No Facebook, no Twitter, etc. I would have to check my email because I'm now involved in several volunteer opportunities (I get to be a volleyball coach for a team in the Special Olympics! How cool is that?) & I have enrolled in school yet again... but I could walk away from social networking for a few weeks to focus on revitalizing the boards. Could you?

...and since our What's Your Facebook/Twitter ID? thread disappeared, maybe we should start with recreating it here. Anyone feeling comfortable about sharing their info, drop it down below. Thanks!

During this final season ,they are throwing a LOT at us each week.

Things to ponder:

Who are the 2 Skeletons in the cave?

Rose and Bernard?
Kate and Sawyer?
Amelia and Frank?

Which KWON is the candidate? (there are 3 of them)

Who the heck is locked up in that room on the SUB?

Since I'm not (with the exception of one I couldn't resist) on twitter for awhile, I guess this is where I shall post the play-by-play from this morning's viewing of the U.S. soccer match. I learned to watch "football" in England, so this is how it is done: at a pub. The closest thing we have in Nashville is Dan McGuinness.

Time notations are match-clock, not time. (i.e. 3:00 means three minutes in, lest you give me the benefit of the doubt; it was 9:00am)

-here goes-

10-minutes-to-kickoff: World Cup in an Irish Pub in Nashville. A bunch of Americans chanting like England fans whilst blatantly rooting against England. I'm going to try to start a new chant in the name of honesty: "*clap* *clap* *clapclapclap* WE SECRETLY ADMIRE YOU!"

-5:00 Pub is out of Stella Artois. The English got here early, I guess. Guinness at 9am. We should at least be giving a percentage of our applause to Ireland for the accomodations, here. (I choose to do this by hating France)

-4:00 We are, en masse, singing the National Anthem. It's interesting how I can think http://www.peopleofwalmart.com is funny, but this sort of patriotism is rather endearing.

-2:00: England match is on the screen in the back, the USA is in the front. I support England, but I have friends at the USA table, and someone gave me a chair, which is a rare commodity in here. I'll occasionally crane my neck, or just watch England on ESPN3 later.

0:00 - There's a &%^#*@# Vuvuzela here. This sort of patriotism is not endearing.

1:00 - Tim Howard = Jason Taylor.
1:05 - Algeria's goalie = The black guy from Scrubs.

2:30 - We have a player named Herculez?! How have we not won a game yet?! Also: "Cherundolo" sounds less like a name, and more like an Australian euphemism for vomiting. Go USA!

5:00 - Aside from VuvuzelaMan, there's also a snare drum. In a bar. At 9am. I deem this awesoHOLY CRAP THAT WAS CLOSE. USA's MVP so far: the top crossbar.

10:00 - We also have a player named Demerit. This further fuels my NFL theory that people who can kick have the most interesting names. Altidore has also joined us, apparently on loan from Hogwart's.

15:00 - I didn't know America had so many chants other than the oft-used "U-S-A!! U-S-A!!" Apparently there's one that goes U-S-AAAA!!! and OOOOHHHHHHHHOOOOHHHOOOOOOOOO USA!!!" (Most of these are being led by VuvuzelaMan.)

16:30 - A welcome addition: the occasional (sarcastic? sincere? probably both) cry of FREEDOOOMMMMMM!!!

20:00 - ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Another goal disallowed?! I don't know anything about the offsides rule, but THAT CALL WAS OBVIOUSLY BULLCRAP!

21:00 - America, this is what you get for inventing that new game show Downfall. A new World Cup rule rendering all your goals invalid. Seriously, though. That call seems really bad.

21:30 - VuvuzelaMan: "FIFA SUCKS!!"

22:00 - England scored!!!!!!!

23:00 - I love Soccer announcers. Whereas baseball announcers say things like "well, it was a bang-bang play, it looked close to me", this guy just said "He might not have been in the best position to make the call, but... that's his job."

25:00 - I'm trying another new chant, since I think these were all made up today anyway. It's aimed at the bleach-blonde guy from the other team: "NINETEEN NINETY EIGHT *clap clap clapclapclap* YOU PROBABLY LIKE LINKIN PARK! *clap clap clapclapclap*"

25:30 - No one is joining in. Maybe later when they have had more to drink. Maybe I need to get VuvuzelaMan on board.

30:00 - Honestly, the excitement is palpable in here. I'm getting sucked in a bit. I'm not chanting or anything, but... it's really tense in here. In a good way. VuvuzelaMan is starting to teeter on the "too drunk" line, though. He's very loud.

36:08 - ALTIDORRRRRRRRRRE!!!!! (In my mind, I am now an angry Dave Seville)

37:45 - "YOU! HAVE! TENDENCIES! *clap clap clapclapclap*

HALFTIME: Dang it. I am what I have ridiculed. I am totally into this 0-0 game.

45:01 - They have taken out Herculez. Unless this new guy's name is Atlas, Zeus, or Pele, we are totally screwed.

53:30 - U-S-A! U-S-A! (I wonder how the U-S B-Team is doing?)

56:30 - Everyone in this place was totally on their feet for that ball off the crossbar. If there is a goal scored, it's going to be absolutely insaaaaaane in here. How on earth is a 0-0 game so freaking tense?!?! Geeeeeez. That ball was like a half-inch off.

57:00 - side note: there is a TV crew here. I am debating whether I should be careful not to end up on the news, or make certain that I end up on the news. VuvuzelaMan is definitely making the news.

61:20 - Chant: "She Fell Down!! She Fell Down!!" Clever.

63:42 - Edson Buddo enters the game. My name theory stands.

67:45 - GAH! UGH! C'MON! NO! YES! GAAAAH.

73:47 - C'MonnnnnnnnnnnNo! Ugh! Coach Bradley is swearing into his hand. VuvuzelaMan is swearing into the ear of anyone nearby.

75:45 - *gasping noises*

76:40 - Announcers are still ripping the referees for the blown call.

78:31 -nnnnnnnnnnnNNNAAAAAAAAA GAHHH! COME ON!! EEEE. This is starting to feel suffocating. 10 minutes left. come on. come on. come on.

81:01 - Dempsey is bleeding. Instant Hero Status.

87:32 - LinkinPark just missed a shot and is being all dramatic about it.

87:39 - VuvuzelaMan just screamed that LinkinPark was a "F***ing Fa**ott!". The Crowd responds with a low "oooooh" of disapproval. VuvuzelaMan: "Well, F*** all of you."

90:00 - HOLY CRAP. 4 minutes of added time. This is essentially sudden death overtime. comeoncomeoncomeon.

90:34 - NO NO NO *whew*

90: 45 - YYYYYYEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLM:LAHCJLAIJEWCLAINWUGBIUAWGBIUAYWGBICAGD&^@THEI*&HOCLSAKCMHLNIU#WCHOIUHQ#TR<CKQSNRAJLBFKJDBNSVIMP:OIHMKUT#FNP(QFGLBUSA! USA! USA! USA! USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

91:30 - *ahem*

92: 25 - Linkin Park is furious at the referee. I didn't even see what happened. Too many high-fives still happening. Someone got a red card. VuvuzelaMan needs a red card.

94:14 - THAT'S IT!!!!! WE WIN! WE'RE IN!!!! The crowd is singing "Oh When The Yanks Go Marching In"

--

Addendum:

We did, in fact, make the news.

http://www.wkrn.com/global/story.asp?s=12697902

- VuvuzelaMan is the one with no shirt on. Surprise.
- Watch the video on the right, just above the photos if you want to see me embarrass myself. (I'm on screen from :36 to :42)
- Aaron Long is right in the middle, black shirt, khaki hat.

I think most everyone has gotten the drift from Twitter that I've started watching LOST.

As I go along, I'll probably need some folks to bounce things off of.

I am currently a little more than halfway through Season 1.

Claire is still missing with that hella creepy Ethan guy.

Locke and Boone found the hatch thing and then Locke went all nutso and tied up Hottie McHot-Man Boone in the woods, leading into that eww-gross flashback of Boone and Shannon and raising my hopes ever so briefly that Shannon was dead and gone. My hatred for her exists in direct proportion to my love for Boone.

Charlie is my favorite. And I really like Hurley, too.

I love Rose and really hope her husband is on the other half of that plane with Cynthia Watros and whoever else. (It would not be possible for me to not know about at least some of the basic things over the 6 years of LOST.)

Locke is cool but he is all kinds of creepy, as well. Sayid is growing on me. Plus, he ain't ugly.

Some of my friends who encouraged me to watch seemed to think I'd like Sawyer. He's not much on my radar so far. He acts like a big ol' jerk, but obviously it's just a facade. Whatever, skeazy. You're gonna have to do better than that. Not gonna lie, though, that Sawyer/Kate kiss was hot. I don't have much use for her and her doe eyes, but I'd go for Sawyer over Jack.

I liked Michael until he started being a tool. But I worry something will happen to him or to Walt or that dog.

I think that's it on the characters for now.

As far as the show in general, I like it pretty well. I don't like creepy/spooky/scary stuff, so I could really do without that, but of course I know it's not going anywhere. I really like the funny parts -- but I'm a big fan of funny!

Tyler Hilton posted this old-school video on his Facebook today. This was years ago, when he was living in Nashville and Charlie Bartlett was about to come out.

Anyway, this "Thursday Afternoon in the Elevator" video cracked me up. You can tell by their faces that it wasn't staged, and he's so funny in it. I guess he started at the top of an 80 story building and everybody was going to the lobby or something. Who knows? In any case -- HILARIOUS.

Once again, congratulations are due to Levi and Aaron.

String Theory was not my most anticipated track last summer; I've no qualms with being upfront about where my allegiances lie. Today as I burrow into my hiding place (some of you may recall that July as a whole is not my favorite month and the 4th of July is as ugly an anniversary for me as anyone should ever have to suffer) I have this melodic bit of beauty disguised in a veil of maths.

They talk in maths.

My husband, Abraham, and Levi have had a reasonable amount of discussion concerning String Theory (not the song, the concept) and I've been privileged to be a fly on the wall for most (?) of it. Though Levi seems to be under the impression that he's still figuring out the very tip of this iceberg, I feel qualified to state that this is a gross underestimation.

In any case, the song is brilliant. It brings me to answer questions not asked - and that, to me at least, shows a certain level of quality not oft found in music. At this rate, I may end up writing yet another* "Letters of..." cover.

*In case any of you missed it on FB, I wrote one of "Spirit First"... but no, you can't hear it.

I experienced a burst of so many emotions last night. I dare say most (if not all) of you couldn’t have cared less that the Daytime Emmys were airing on CBS last night, but I grew up watching As the World Turns and Guiding Light and have made so many friends through mutual connection to these shows that they have been a tremendous part of my life. Guiding Light went off the air last fall, and As the World Turns just wrapped filming last week and they, too, will leave the airwaves in September.

It is sad for me to think about them coming to a close, but even more so because I’ve had to pleasure of getting to know so many of these actors over the years, and know how difficult it is for them.

Closest to my heart, though, is Michael Park, who I met back in 2003 and have long considered a dear friend. Of course, I have watched him on TV for the last 13 years, but the greater memories are of the talks we’ve shared, the recaps of his son’s baseball games, the birth of his youngest daughter, and getting to know his wonderful family. Michael was one of the first people who reached out with heartfelt sympathy to make sure I was doing OK after Dr. Falwell passed away, and at other times, we’ve doubled over in laughter together (as I’m reminded by one of my favorite candid photos sitting next to me on my desk).

He’s been nominated several times before for his roles on Broadway as well as for As the World Turns, but with the latter going off the air, I knew this was his last chance to be recognized for 13 years of great work on a show and with a cast that he loves.

My present lack-of-TV situation meant I did not get to watch the broadcast. (I had made arrangements, but something came up at the last minute so my plans fell through.) My friend Andrea, though, who knew how important it was to me, watched the Emmys herself and called me when the lead actor category came on and turned the TV up loud enough so that I was able to hear his name called and even listen to his acceptance speech. I immediately broke down, sobbing, from mostly joy mixed with sadness. To top it off, his leading lady (who is also a sweetheart) won lead actress, which was announced on the heels of his category, so I was able to listen to both speeches through the phone, and I cried even more knowing how much it would mean to both of them to share the moment together.

I searched YouTube first thing this morning so I could actually *see* him win, and I found a clip that includes Maura’s win as well. If you want to humor me, you can watch it, too:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONi-LclNB8A

I was such a happy, blubbering mess last night and also thought of how I will feel when Levi finally gets recognized for all of his hard work as well. I look forward to that day, so I can cry like I’m his Momma.

One of my friends, Libby, called me at work this morning to tell me that she had picked up her cousin upon his return from Europe and was driving him down to VA Beach to see some of their family, and on the way, they were discussing some music. I didn't think much of it, as she often calls to tell me about how she's listening to this or that per my recommendations. Well, she proceeded to say that an Imogen Heap song came on, and her cousin said he knew her music b/c he'd seen her play in Dallas "with this other cool guy who did loops and stuff." Libby then looked at him and said (probably with great intensity), "You mean LEVI WEAVER?!?!" Indeed, 'twas Levi, hence why she called to share in her excitement. Additionally, he told her that he had emailed Levi at the time and got a very nice response in return, which impressed him. I told Libby to direct him to leviweaver.com to get reconnected, so who knows? Maybe he will show up here :)

Anyway, I wanted to make sure Levi heard this story, and I thought the rest of you would enjoy it as well.

Yesterday was a fun but draining day, so when I put my head on my pillow last night, I was looking forward to a glorious night's sleep. It didn't quite happen that way, all set off when I was awakened at 3am by a daunting voicemail.

The man on the voicemail identified himself and proceeded to tell me that his sister had just died and he degenerated into sobs as he went on to the point that I could not understand most of what he said.

The call had all the makings of a wrong number, but it was so horrifying in and of itself that it freaked me out anyway.

Well, add to that the fact that the last name of the man who said his sister had died is the same as the maiden name of a friend of mine who lives in Colorado. I looked at the area code, and it was from Colorado.

Now, I haven't talked to my friend out there for a while -- she recently changed jobs and has been traveling extensively, and my communication with her has been primarily internet-only over the years, so outside of calling her cell phone in the middle of the night like a crazy person, I had no way to check it out.

I decided there was nothing I could find out last night, so I just went back to sleep and of course had nightmares through the rest of my attempt to sleep.

Well, this morning, I decided to just shoot an email to my friend -- not mentioning the voicemail, but just saying essentially, "I haven't heard from you in a while -- how are things?"

I was exuberant to get a reply from her this afternoon, and as I read the email, she told me how she had been out of town and came home to find out that her sister-in-law was admitted to the hospital and passed away last night. So, putting two and two together -- THAT is who the voicemail was about. The voicemail from someone who does not know me or even know OF me, and had to mis-dial my number (Virginia area code and all), and leave that message which was not ever intended for me, that still somehow had ties to me.

Freaky.
